Tell me Mr. Aldrin, are you now or have you ever been a member of the Michigan Department of Attorney General? Have you taken as your own their peccant aims? Have you forsaken God, Country, and Dr. Jacob Robert Shrum's Project Jet Pack for the fruits of their empty promises?

You claim to have a background in astronautics, but in my nearly two decades as America's foremost expert on jet propulsion, I can say that I have never heard of you. I have studied at some of this nation's premier aeronautical engineering universities such as Trinity Southern University, have taught many hundreds in that same subject, and not once has your name come up in conversations of Jesus-inspired flight solutions. Your moniker in fact reads to these eyes as an alias concocted by the Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox and his sniveling minion, Charles Vilsap, to gain for themselves the secrets that belong only to Dr. Jacob Robert Shrum's Project Jet Pack and myself, Dr. Jacob Robert Shrum.

How else to explain your obscene proposal to strap yourself to another human being. Such proximity to another body can only result in unclean thoughts and unnatural acts, and is expressly proscribed by the Bible. Pursuant to proper Baptist teachings, you may come into torso-to-torso contact only with a woman to whom you are married in the eyes of Jesus, or with a beloved sibling such as my tragically deceased sister Jennifer. Your offer to not only bind yourself to an unrelated neighbor, but to do so at super-sonic speeds, is an abomination in the eyes of the Lord.

I shudder to think what kind of "assistance" this neighbor of yours has rendered you in the past. My advice to you is to think less about flying and more about the salvation of your soul through prayer and silent reflection. I believe my credentials speak for themselves, while your unvarnished threats of violence belie an unambiguous bias in favor of certain nefarious so-called "legal" authorities. In fact, rigorous scientific testing by my team has conclusively disproved your claim to be some sort of scientific expert. In a controlled setting, the Project Jet Pack team tested various cushion thicknesses between two human bodies, and full penile stimulation was achieved in cushions as thick as 1050mm, more than 20 times as thick as the cushion you proposed to use with your "volunteer." The risk of such stimulation occurring in flight, as you proposed, are staggering, and one can hardly imagine the consequences of such impurity combining with the supersonic speeds enabled by PJP technologies. I thank you for your interest in doing the Lord's work through Dr. Jacob Robert's Shrum's Project Jet Pack. I can assure you, Project Jet Pack would never discriminate on the basis of age. In fact, my scientific research has proven conclusively that God's love accretes in our bodies over time in the form of medichlorians, which are the products of intense prayer and silent reflection. So the older you get (provided you spend your years in tune with Jesus' Baptist teachings), the better able you become to participate in Dr. Jacob Robert Shrum's Project Jet Pack.

Unfortunately, to be eligible to be a PJP test pilot, you must have a body mass of at least 250 kilograms, which I fear disqualifies you. Dear Mr. Shrum,

The Office of the Attorney General of the State of Michigan is conducting an inquiry into purported scientific testing conducted by your organization in this state on July 5, 2007. Public complaints led to an inquiry by a task force consisting of officers from the Michigan State Police and Department of Natural Resources. This inquiry uncovered and documented evidence of an unauthorized explosion near the Gogebic Gorge, and the unlawful mutilation of a human corpse.

Your organization, fashioning itself as "Dr. Jacob Robert Shrum's Project Jet Pack," may be in violation of several provisions of the Michigan Penal Code, including Mich. Comp. Laws § 750.160 (mutilation and defacement of a human body); Mich. Comp. Laws § 750.160(c) (failure to properly dispose of dead human body); and Mich. Comp. Laws § 339.1805 (unlicensed handling of a dead human body). A felony conviction under any of these provisions carries a $50,000 fine and up to ten years in prison.

I'm part of a group of engineers here at the University of ******** developing a rocket for entry into the next phase of the X-Prize private space-travel competition. I recently read a report that you have successfully tested a rocket prototype, and was hoping you could settle a dispute among members of our development team. Given an Effective Exhaust Velocity ("EEV") governed by the equation c=Fg/W, and a propellant flow rate (W) of 65 vph, what did you find to be the minimum effective thrust (F), given gravity acceleration at sea level? I've been running computer simulations that yield values as low as 211 lb., but my colleague, Dr. A.G. Thomas, insists his calculation of 254 lb is correct. We'd like to come to a mathematical conclusion on paper before we conduct a test launch and risk a failure or (even if the chances are exceedingly small for a properly prepared rocket experiment) an explosion. Your input would be most welcome.

In the spirit of scientific camaraderie, I'm happy to help. My first piece of advice is to abandon this so-called "X-Prize" contest. Jet packs should not be developed to win some petty cash prize. Creating jet packs is the Lord's work; they should not be bent to the nefarious purposes of demon-barons like Richard Branson. For that matter, I simply do not believe in nonsensical equations like your "c=Fg/W." Mathematical equations are dreamed up by godless men who wish only to distract us from the true Answer: Prayer + Frequent Deep-Gorge Testing = Success.
On your current path, you simply cannot succeed. Please contact me when you have abandoned your fool's errand; you could be useful to our efforts here in Iowa. Thank you for your question!

Dear Doctor Shrum,
I commend you on your success in fund raising for your project. I wonder if you've considered focusing your spending on health and wellness programs for the obese, rather than on a jet pack they would use only after they've fallen ill, and then only when they've done so in a gorge. Most physicians agree that all but the most afflicted (one in five, perhaps) can benefit from a steady regimen of exercise. There is a conspicuous lack of facilities for the obese poor to work out, though, which is something your group could surely help with.

It's easy for people who have never been obese or stranded in a gorge to downplay the importance of deep-gorge rescue of the medically needy. I assure you, if I was meant to develop gyms and work-out equipment, the Lord would have told me so, loud and clear. And I simply dispute your numbers. For every one person who tells me they could benefit from exercise, ten more tell me of their crying needs for an emergency solitary flight solution. Hypothetical Exercises in Fuel Systems Management

Let's say a certain somebody, let's call him Shmerb, declared that the services of a certain drug rehabilitation center, let's call it the Shmopiate Shmaddiction Unit, were insufficiently reliant on the lessons and theories of the bible and the prophets going back to Abraham. So Shmerb, in his abundant biblical wisdom, declared that a certain jet pack development organization would no longer pay the health insurance premiums for its Director of Fuel Systems, who was subsequently forced to sign himself out from the Smopiate Shmaddiction Unit, where he was undergoing much-needed treatment for an all-consuming addiction to Shmeroin. That Director of Fuel Systems is instead now supposed to rely on the "light of the Lord, as experienced through sustained sessions of prayer and silent reflection, to rid yourself of this terrible, heathen addition, borne of Satan himself."

Entirely unrelated to the preceding hypothetical exercise, I have returned from my educational hiatus to my position as Director of Fuel Systems at Project Jet Pack. Despite the unqualified success of the previous fuel system design, I have been tasked with designing an injector arrangement with lower potential blast disintegration, and I have been experimenting to that end.

One might ask if there is any scientific basis for diluting jet pack jet fuel with human urine. The answer to that question is this: when you dilute the jet fuel with something free, you then have extra jet fuel which you could, if you so chose, sell to someone else. What would one sell siphoned jet fuel for? Hypothethically? Well, it's hard to say. But, since we're just speculating, I suppose you could, hypothetically, trade jet fuel for shmeroin.

Project Jet Pack Releases Data From Successful Test Launch

BLACK RIVER, Michigan --(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 9, 2007--Dr. Jacob Robert Shrum's Project Jet Pack released data today from the first round of open air scientific testing of the prototype Haeftaeman™/Bell Aerosystems Design Medical Lift-Response Jet Pack.

Towing subject mass of 262 kilograms, the PJP prototype Medical Lift-Response Jet Pack achieved initial thrust of 980.40 lbf and peak arc thrust of 2098.12 lbf. Flight period stability vacillation readings ranged from 46,000 Hz to 103,000 Hz. Maximum altitude, reached .78 seconds after launch, was 476.8 meters. Blast disintegration was 96%.

Dr. Jacob Robert Shrum, founder of Dr. Robert Shrum's Project Jet Pack, released the following statement:

A Report of the Events of the 5th Day of July, 2007

When Dr. Shrum found me three long years ago, I was in a dark place. Spiritually and emotionally, I was nothing. I'd given in to all easy temptations, and having so indulged, I could never get enough; I would and did do anything to have more. Dr. Jacob Robert Shrum's Project Jet Pack gave me a mission, a reason to live.

This is why I find it difficult to describe the events of the 5th of July. But I owe it to you, loyal Project Jet Pack supporters, who have invested so much - in time, prayer, and monetary donations - to get us to this stage. I must unburden myself of this knowledge.

Spirits were high before the launch. Kevin assisted me in fastening the test subject cadaver to the jet pack, a task that proved difficult due to bloating, which became ever worse as the July sun beat down upon the corpse.

After nearly two hours, sweat-drenched and exhausted, I was finally able to release the Bell Aerosystems launch safety switch.

I joined the PJP team behind the Plexiglas barrier where, over the rhythmic Baptist chanting of Deacon McGerbert, Dr. Shrum gave a final blessing of the prototype Bell Aerosystems design. On the count of twelve, Dr. Shrum pressed the launch trigger.

The blast was deafening. The prototype exploded, sending steel shrapnel almost 500 meters into the air, and spattering the glass barrier with rotting human viscera.

In Dr. Shrum's rush to provide lift sufficient to launch ever more massive people into the air, we had simply pushed the Bell Aerosystems design too far. Thrust exceeded 2000 lbf, and stability readings vacillated wildly, breaking the 100,000 Hz level that could have killed us all. Over 96% of the prototype and test cadaver were disintegrated.

We stood stunned over the wreckage, particulate human remains still raining down upon us. We then set out silently, each of us on our own, for the long hike away from the testing grounds.

I don't know how anyone can interpret these results as anything other than a complete and utter failure, an abomination that leaves me questioning my faith in God. We have wasted millions of dollars, and denied a good Christian man a proper burial. I feel aimless; I do not know where to turn. It seems that God, if there is such a thing, has abandoned me.

An Urgent Appeal From Dr. Jacob Robert Shrum

Dear Friends and Project Jet Pack Followers,

The progress of Project Jet Pack over these past seven months has been nothing short of miraculous. The PJP team believes we now have a functioning prototype of the improved Bell Aerosystem design, combined with the proprietary Haeftaemantriple reinforced jet pack harness. However, for scientific testing to continue, we need your help.

Through our loose affiliation with the University of Iowa, we have submitted a request for a donated corpse for use in the first stage of open-air scientific testing. Test Subject Kevin Released from Hospital

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa --(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 2007

A 36 year old Project Jet Pack test subject, recently injured in a harness stress test experiment, has been released from the hospital.

Kevin, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries when the jet pack harness that he was testing failed. Kevin suffered rope burns and assorted lesser injuries: two broken fibulas, a broken pelvis, and a punctured left lung. Following the test failure, Kevin was transported to Cedar Rapids Baptist Memorial Hospital for "routine observation."

After spending three weeks in intensive care, Kevin has been relocated to his home for the remainder of his recovery.

Kevin expects to be back on the testing field shortly, and released the following statement regarding his partipation in Project Jet Pack:

"I'm very fortunate to have the opportunity to test jet packs - they are the future. My injuries were minimal, especially in comparison to the pain endured by the obese: suffering and stranded without medical care. I will be out there testing jet packs as soon as the doctors clear me."


Dr. Jacob Robert Shrum, founder and spiritual leader of Project Jet Pack, offered his thanks to Kevin for his continued participation in the test phase of the team's work:

The Project Jet Pack Harness System

The redesign and calibration of the Bell Aerosystems engine continues apace. Dr. Shrum announced this week that the Project Jet Pack team will be split in two, with Dr. Shrum leading efforts on jet engine design and testing, and with myself designing and fabricating the jet pack support systems.

The harness prototype (pictured right) was initially constructed of triple-layered Kevlar around steel-titanium alloy belting. The preliminary prototype trial demonstrated that this harness design was insufficient to meet Dr. Shrum's specifications, which call for a mass support rating in excess of 230 kilograms. After the test subject, Kevin, was removed from the failed harness, the straps were reinforced with a second layer of belting and stitched together using a synthetic fiber weave. Additional harness testing is scheduled to occur in four to six weeks, upon Kevin's full recovery.

Bell Aerosystems Design Positioned for Future Development

Bell Aerosystems/GE 4900

The Project Jet Pack team has narrowed the candidates for the next stage of development to two engines: the Bell Aerosystems design (pictured above) and the GE 4900 Jet Thruster. Testing on the two engines indicates similar thrust statistics, with the Bell engine providing 1418.098 lbf thrust, and the GE model 1301.8 lbf thrust. Dr. Shrum remains concerned about the stability of the Bell Aerosystems design; at full thrust, engine mounts showed readings of 47,000 Hz. However, the Bell system has shown superior subterranean metrics, a potential advantage over the GE 4900 for deep gorge and river bed missions.

Dr. Shrum has instructed the team to pray on the choice over the holiday. Happy New Year to the Project Jet Pack team, and all our readers out there!

Dr. Jacob Robert Shrum's Project Jet Pack

The Internet, like jet propulsion, moves the human race forward at supersonic speed. My name is Dr. Jacob Robert Shrum, and I've established the Project Jet Pack Blog to update the public about the amazing progress my team is making in developing and refining jet pack technology.

Project Jet Pack is my personal passion, but it finds its roots in personal tragedy.

In July 1992, I embarked on a nature hike along the Tahquamenon River with my sister, Jennifer. Three days into hike, now at the Gogebic Gorge, Jennifer was struck by a small boulder. While I tended to her injuries, Jennifer began experiencing heart palpitations. I radioed for medical assistance, but given our location 40 kilometers from the nearest road and deep within the gorge, a medivac was Jennifer's only hope. Over the ensuing 30 minutes, Jennifer slipped in and out of consciousness while I performed CPR. When I finally heard the whir of the approaching helicopter, I thought our ordeal was nearing its end.

I was wrong.

Medivac personnel lowered a lift harness from the helicopter hovering overhead, but the straps were woefully undersized, and we were forced to waste precious minutes adapting a livestock harness to fit Jennifer. However, this was not to be the last indignity. Struggling against the gorge's swirling winds, the copter made four attempts to ascend without sending Jennifer swinging into the rocky cliffs of the Gogebic. Each time, the helicopter's conventional rotor engines came up lacking, incapable of lifting Jennifer's 225 kilograms to safety. Running short of fuel, the Medivac team relented and left Jennifer in the gorge to die.

I vowed that day, over my beloved sister's still-warm corpse, that I would make a difference that would ensure tragedies like this were a thing of the past. I would harness a technology well within humanity's grasp and turn it to the Lord's work. That day, beside the roiling waters of the Tahquamenon River, Project Jet Pack was born.
